Also known as Treatment Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, although relaxing and refreshing, focuses more intently on working out deeper muscle tensions and injuries. Using the basis of Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue goes beyond basic relaxation and into muscle tissue rehabilitation and treatment.
After a preliminary warming of the tissue areas to be worked, the therapist will spend more focused time working deeper into the belly of the muscle tissue using a combination of friction massage techniques and modalities to return the muscle to normal length and mobility. Deep Tissue massage is more focused, and more intense than basic Swedish Massage, both in sensory stimulation as well as client participation. Your Therapist will require more input from you, the client, as to the nature of your injury or pain manifestation, your desired rehabilitation goals, focus of treatment for the session, expected results, pain tolerance and treatment assistance during a session. The focus and intent of effective Deep Tissue treatment at Soul Serenity Massage, is not one of "no pain, no gain" but rather working together as a team with your therapist in facilitating the best possible treatment with the least amount of pain necessary for the healing of the injured muscle tissue. Deep Tissue Massage need not always be painful to be the most effective. You will assist your therapist throughout your treatment by giving feedback as to your pain on a scale of 1 to 10, and assisting in a variety of range of motion, stretching, trigger point, and flex and counter-flex techniques, and other treatment modalities that may be used based on your individual needs and treatment scope worked out with your therapist. Upon completion of your session, you may experience a achy sensation in the muscles for a period of a few hours that can last up to 24 hours, but should subside after 24 hours, and your muscles should feel less pain and tension than prior to your treatment. You should not be physically bruised after any form of deep tissue treatment, as this is a reinjury of the already damaged tissue, and not the focus of deep tissue or injury treatment massage. Your thereapist will work with you and encourage your communication throughout your deep tissue treatment to assure your session is one of healing and not one of unnecessary discomfort. |
